Legs in a Dream in Islam: Meaning by Ibn Sirin
الساق في المنام
In Islam, a leg seen in a dream mostly points to the length of life. The Ibn Sirin collection says that “the leg is sometimes the life of its owner”. A leg of iron announces a long life, a leg of glass a death that is near. Ibn Sirin interpreted thick hair on a man’s legs as a debt for that man, and death in prison.
وربما كانت الساق عمر صاحبهاIn the Ibn Sirin collection: “The leg is sometimes the life of its owner.”
Muntakhab al-kalâm, chapter 22, vol. 1, p. 175
The collection speaks of the leg, saq in Arabic, at the end of the chapter on the parts of the body, just before the foot. It links the leg to the length of life, while the foot is linked to wealth and provision. Dreams of a cut or broken leg are treated with the foot, on the page given to it.

Ibn Sirin’s story about the hairy legs
رأيت كأن على ساقي رجل شعرا كثيرا فقال يركبه دين ويموت في السجنA man came to Ibn Sirin and said: “I saw thick hair on a man’s legs.” Ibn Sirin replied: “A debt will weigh on him and he will die in prison.” The man said: “It was about you that I saw it.” Ibn Sirin then said: “To Allah we belong and to Him we return.” He later died in prison with a debt of forty thousand dirhams, which was paid for him after his death.
Muntakhab al-kalâm, chapter 22, vol. 1, p. 176
Before you interpret your dream
Not every dream carries a meaning. The Prophet ﷺ described three kinds: a good dream, which is glad tidings from Allah; a distressing dream, which comes from Satan; and what a person tells himself during the day (Sahih Muslim, no. 2263). Only the first is read with a collection like Ibn Sirin’s. See the three kinds of dreams, and if your dream frightened you, what to do after a bad dream.
Frequently asked questions
What does seeing legs in a dream mean in Islam?
The Ibn Sirin collection links the leg to the length of life: “the leg is sometimes the life of its owner” (vol. 1, p. 175). A strong leg, made of iron, announces a long life. A fragile leg, made of glass, announces a death that is near.
What do hairy legs mean in a dream in Islam?
Ibn Sirin interpreted thick hair on a man’s legs as a debt that weighs on him and death in prison. The collection reports that this dream was about him, and that he died in prison with a debt of forty thousand dirhams (vol. 1, p. 176).
What does a broken, cut or amputated leg mean in a dream?
The collection treats these cases with the foot, because it often uses the same word for the leg and the foot. A cut leg makes the dreamer lose half of his wealth. If both are cut and come off, his wealth and strength go, or the dreamer dies (vol. 1, p. 175). The other cases are on the page about the feet.
What does a leg injury mean in a dream in Islam?
The collection speaks of it for a ruler or an imam: if he is wounded in the leg, his life grows longer (vol. 1, p. 287). It gives no meaning to a leg wound for other dreamers.
Does the meaning change for a married woman or a single woman?
The collection makes no distinction between a married woman, a single woman or a pregnant woman for the leg. The distinctions it makes concern other situations, such as the ruler or imam wounded in the leg, or the dead person who complains of his legs.
